Lack of wind on the first day of IMS 600 Worlds

Day 1 of IMS 600 Worlds 2002 Day 1 of IMS 600 Worlds 2002 Day 1 of IMS 600 Worlds 2002
IMS 600 World Championship - Lack of wind on the first day of IMS 600 Worlds
BAYONA, ESP-(7-10-2002)  The IMS 600 World Championship, to be hold from the 5th to the 11th October and organised by Monte Real Club Yates de Bayona (Spain) and sponsored by Xunta de Galicia (tourism and sport local government) and Spanair (airline company), has been postponed until tomorrow Tuesday due to the lack of the wind.

Five windward/leeward races and one offshore race are scheduled. For the Worlds to be valid, a total of 6.25 points are to be summed up: windward/leeward races score 1.0 point each and the offshore in total scores 2.5 (each half of the long offshore scores 1.25).

With 17 entries, five countries and two continents (France, United Kingdom, Portugal, Argentina and Spain), last week-end the Measurement Committee, with the Italian Nicola Sironi as President, proceed to the measurement and weight of the crews.

Today the fleet remained tied in the pontoons of the Monte Real Club de Yates de Bayona, whereas the Race Committee tried to search for wind in the Bay of Vigo for about six hours, to dispute the first windward/leeward of the Worlds.

Finally on 1630 hours the Race Committee hoisted the flag of annulment of the races of the day. After the annulment the representatives of the ORC and the owners of the IMS 600 Class met to change impressions on the immediate future of the class.

For tomorrow, the second day of races, the Race Committee will try to recover the races annulled of today to get the necessary scoring that demands the International Sailing Federation for the Championship to be valid.
